
The Headache of IP65 Heaters (and how we fixed it)
If you’ve ever worked with IP65-rated heaters, you know the deal. That waterproof seal is great—until something actually breaks. Usually, when a heating element burns out, you’re stuck. You have to tear down the entire housing just to swap one part. It’s a mess. We decided there had to be a better way, so we went with a modular design instead. The “Year Five” Problem Here’s the thing: most people forget about what happens five years down the road. After years of heating up and cooling down, those elements eventually give out. With a standard sealed unit, replacing a tube means breaking that environmental seal. Once you do that, you’re inviting moisture in, and suddenly you’re worrying about whether the whole enclosure is still certified. It’s a nightmare. Our fix? We just separated the heating core from the waterproof chassis. Stop the Teardowns We built these infrared modules to be “drop-in” replacements. Instead of hard-wiring everything into one giant terminal block, we use quick-connect interfaces. This means you can pull a dying module right out of the housing without touching the main power feed. It turns a four-hour ordeal into a fifteen-minute job.**Fifteen minutes.**That’s the difference between a bad morning and a non-event. The Trade-off Now, to be fair, nothing is perfect. Using connectors instead of a direct solder or crimp adds a tiny bit of contact resistance. You might see a small voltage drop. But honestly? It’s a trade we’re happy to make. A tiny dip in electrical efficiency is nothing compared to the peace of mind you get from knowing your uptime is protected. How it works in the real world When a tube goes, you don’t need to bring out the full toolkit and rewire the machine. You just unlock the module, slide the old one out, and click the new one in. The IP65 gasket stays exactly where it is. Your heater stays protected from dust and wash-downs, and your production line keeps humming along. It’s just a more practical way to build equipment. Less “permanent installation,” more “easy to fix.”
