
Getting the Light Right in Bathroom Heaters
When we’re building infrared lamps for bathrooms, the biggest headache isn’t the heat. It’s the glare. Standard short-wave lamps are blinding. They put out this harsh, bright light that’s tough on the eyes—and for a baby with sensitive vision, it’s just too much. We can’t have that. So, we change how the light behaves. Keeping eyes safe We use special coatings and doped quartz glass to block out the blinding visible light and those nasty UV rays. Instead, we push the energy into the medium or long-wave range. The result? You get all that cozy warmth hitting your skin, but without that “staring into the sun” feeling you get from a halogen bulb. It stays soft. It’s gentle. It means babies can stay warm without their eyes getting overstimulated. Fighting the bathroom environment Bathrooms are honestly a nightmare for electronics. Between the steam and the splashes, things get messy. We use IP-rated seals to make sure moisture doesn’t sneak into the electrical parts. Then there’s the heat shock. When you flip that switch, the filament goes from cold to scorching in a heartbeat. If we used cheap glass, the tube would just crack. We stick to high-purity quartz and reinforced seals. It keeps the halogen gas locked inside so the filament doesn’t burn out after a few weeks. The trade-offs (because there are always some) Here is the catch: when you filter out the glare, you lose some of the brightness. These lamps aren’t going to light up your whole room. If you need the heater to double as your main light source, you’re going to be disappointed. It’s just too dim. Your best bet is to wire in some LEDs to handle the lighting while the infrared handles the warmth. One last tip: get the wattage right for your space. If you put too much power in a tiny bathroom, you’ll end up in a sauna. But if you go too low, the damp air will just soak up the heat before it even reaches you. It’s all about finding that sweet spot.
