
Keeping Your Ceiling Heaters Alive in a Dirty Shop
Let’s be honest: factory ceilings are a nightmare. Between the rising steam, floating oil droplets, and that constant mist of coolant, it’s a brutal place for electronics to live. If you use a standard heater, those contaminants will eat through your heating elements in no time. We’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to stop that from happening.
The problem with fog
Here is the thing about infrared lamps: they hate moisture. When water vapor or fog hits a scorching hot quartz tube, it doesn’t just sit there. It creates these tiny, freezing cold spots on the glass. The glass expands and contracts unevenly, stresses out, and then—snap. The lamp cracks and burns out. To fix this, we built our heaters with anti-fogging seals and a housing shape that basically tells moisture to go elsewhere. By keeping the tube dry, the heat stays steady. No sudden temperature shocks, no cracked glass, and way fewer headaches for you.
Dealing with the “Splash Factor”
Leaks happen. Someone over-sprays during a cleanup, or a pipe drips right where it shouldn’t. If a single drop of conductive liquid hits a high-voltage terminal, you’ve got a short circuit on your hands. We didn’t want to leave that to chance. We used sealed gaskets and tucked the wiring ports away so they aren’t sitting ducks. Plus, we moved the electrical connections out of the “drip zone.” If fluid hits the unit, it just slides off the outer casing and hits the floor instead of seeping into the guts of the machine.
The honest trade-off
Now, there is a catch. Because we’ve added this protective shielding, there’s a bit more material between the heater and your floor. You’ll lose a tiny bit of that raw, immediate heat intensity you get from a totally naked lamp. But look at it this way: you’re trading a small amount of heat for a much longer lifespan. In my experience, that’s a bargain. It beats climbing a ladder every few months to replace a dead unit because the environment got the better of it. Just a couple of reminders: make sure you wire these into a properly grounded circuit. And double-check that your mounting brackets can handle the extra weight of the shielding.
