
How we keep bathroom heaters from blinding you
When we design infrared lamps for the bathroom, we have one main goal: get the heat to your skin without blinding you in the process. Most standard short-wave lamps are basically light cannons. They blast out a ton of visible light and UV rays. That’s great if you’re running an industrial drying oven, but it’s a nightmare in a bathroom—especially if you’ve got kids or elderly parents using the space. Nobody wants to feel like they’re standing under a stadium floodlight while they’re trying to dry off. The trick to “soft” heat To fix this, we change how the light behaves. Instead of just using a raw quartz filament, we use special coatings or doped quartz glass. Think of it as a filter. It blocks out those harsh, high-frequency rays and UVs, but lets the long-wave infrared—the actual warmth—slide right through. You get the cozy heat on your skin, but your eyes don’t take a beating. Getting the placement right That “soft glow” isn’t an accident. We spend a lot of time tweaking the wattage and voltage. We want the filament hot enough to actually warm you up, but not so hot that it starts emitting that oppressive, bright white light. One quick tip on installation: watch your spacing. If you mount these too tight against the ceiling, the heat has nowhere to go. It just soaks into the mounting bracket. Give it some breathing room so you don’t end up with warped housing or peeling paint on your ceiling. The trade-off Here’s the honest part: filtering out the light costs us a bit of power. An “eye-protection” lamp isn’t quite as raw or efficient as those clear industrial tubes you see in factories. You get a little less heat density per watt. To make sure you still feel that instant “ahhh” moment when you turn it on, we usually just bump up the wattage or use a larger surface area. And a final word of caution—don’t choke the electronics. If the housing doesn’t have enough airflow, the driver components will run hot. Keep it vented, or you’re just asking for the electronics to fry.
